The Julian Brown Science Olympiad Award encourages teamwork in the development and completion of a complex high school level science project. Scheduled for touchdown on Sunday May 25, 2008, the Phoenix Mars Lander, as of this writing, is only hours away from an historic touchdown on Mars’ North Pole. The Associated Press article reports that Mr. Peter Smith, Principal Investigator from the University of Arizona, Tucson said: "I'm a little nervous on the inside. I'm getting butterflies," "We bet the whole farm on this safe landing and we can't do our science without this safe landing."
Mr. Smith’s emphasis on ‘we’ means that he recognizes the value that the team has brought to this extraordinary endeavor. The Julian Brown Science Olympiad Award encourages the team approach to complex problem solving. The award is named after Julian Brown, because his last participation in the Science Olympiad program earned him and his team mate first place in their category.
Your $1000.00 contribution buys a team trophy and a cash award for each of the team members. Your contribution is 100% tax deductible.
