The Julian Brown Memorial Cup soccer tournament is sponsored by the Charlotte United Futbol Club, under the auspices of U.S. Club Soccer. The tournament is held in April, in commemoration of the tragic accident in France that took the lives of Julian Brown and Matthew Helms. The tournament has primarily drawn teams from eastern seaboard states and France. In 2007, it hosted 225 teams, and is considered one of the most competitive youth tournaments in the region. In 2008, the fourth annual tournament launched with more than 270 teams!
