The Julian Brown Youth Soccer Camp
The Julian Brown Youth Soccer Camp is held each year at the Stratford Richardson YMCA in Charlotte, NC. The week-long camp, sponsored by the Julian Brown Memorial Fund and the YMCA, was developed to introduce children to the rewarding sport of soccer. The camp was one of the first activities launched by The Julian Brown Memorial Fund.
The program, which began in 2004, has been absolutely free for to the 1000 children that have participated. The Julian Brown Fund and the YMCA brings together professional soccer coaches, player-volunteers, coordinators, food servers, and the children. The obvious goal is to introduce the fundamentals of the beautiful game, to some very deserving children.
The Fund has three ambitious improvement objectives for this program. First, we'd like to see the camp, currently held one time per year, expanded to twice yearly to meet demand. Second, for those children that demonstrate a significant interest in the game, we want to obtain sponsorships for them to play at least a season in one of Charlotte's three recreational soccer leagues, or in a YMCA sponsored program. Finally, we'd like to add a pair of athletic shoes, to accompany the soccer ball that we currently give to each of the participants.
The expense of conducting the camp averages $300.00 per child for the week. Of course, we need your help to continue making this possible.
There are many ways to support the Julian Brown Memorial Soccer Camp. You can pay for one child for the full week, purchase a pair of basic athletic shoes, donate a recreational soccer scholarship, or make a contribution of $10.00 or more by clicking on the DONATE NOW icon to the right of the page.
